It was a good week for the Lord Botetourt soccer teams as both the boys and girls won two matches.
The Cavalier boys opened with a 4-0 shutout win at Alleghany. Then, LB defeated Franklin County in overtime Friday, 3-1.
“As I reflect on the past week, I couldn’t be any more proud of my defensive line, which is led by Blake Johnson, Isaac DeHart, and goalkeeper Bryson Sanchez,” said LB coach Tim Wright. “They have done a great job staying organized and compact, only allowing single digit number of shots on our goal.”
Wright also had praise for the backs.
“Both outside defensive backs, Nathan Rich and Zach Durham, are sophomores and have proven to be an asset to our defensive success,” he said. “I couldn’t be any more proud of our attacking line players. To date, we have nine different goal scorers from a roster of 17 field players. This diversity aids in the unpredictability approach in our offensive game.”
The two wins lifted the boys to 5-1 on the season, while the girls remained unbeaten at 6-0 with a 10-0 win over Alleghany and a 3-1 win against Franklin County.
“The Franklin County match was very tough and physical,” said LB coach Giuseppe D’Arpa.
Sidney Keyes scored the first goal against the Eagles off a corner kick from Hannah Bane. Sisters Hannah and Sara Bane each scored in the second half to seal the win.
The Cavaliers are now off until Tuesday, April 18, when the girls and boys host James River in a doubleheader.
