The James River baseball team was one of the few to be in action over spring break. The Knights played in Springwood on Thursday and lost to visiting Staunton River, 5-2.
Staunton River took an early lead off Knights starting pitcher Landen Horton when they scored one in the top of the first and two more in the second. James River got one back in the bottom of the second and both teams scored a run in the third to make it 4-2 in favor the Eagles. Staunton River tacked on one more run in the in the sixth.
Horton took the loss, allowing four runs in two innings. Andrew Harless pitched a strong five innings of relief, fanning three.
At the plate, Horton was two for four with a run scored and Harless was also two for four, driving in a run.
The loss dropped River to 3-6 overall.
