During the year, American Legion Post 240 asked for donations to be distributed among several organizations that assist the needs of military veterans throughout the area.
At its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 5, Post 240 membership nominated and approved the following donations: Wounded Warriors, National Order of Trench Rats (this organization fulfills wounded veteran needs), canteen vouchers for veterans who are patients at the VA Medical Center in Salem, American Legion State Office of Texas for its Hurricane Relief Fund and American Legion State Office of Florida for its Hurricane Relief Fund.
Post 240 was also able to assist a local veteran and his family who were low on personal funds and in need of money to purchase food.
“Post 240 is honored and proud to be able to assist our needy veterans not only here in Botetourt County but also in other parts of the country that are stricken by a national tragedy,” an announcement from the Post said.
Post 240 invites all Botetourt veterans to attend its meetings at the VFW Hall at the corner of Country Club Road and US 220 on the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.
American Legion Post 240 and the VWF will once again be offering Christmas trees starting Friday morning, Nov. 24. Donations will be appreciated.
