The All-Blue Ridge District football team was announced this week as the final member was eliminated from post-season play.

Staunton River was the last BRD team standing, but the Golden Eagles came up two wins short of a state championship when they lost to Heritage on Saturday, 49-35. As expected, River took home a lion’s share of the awards. Staunton River’s Chuck Poston was named Coach of the Year, Grayson Overstreet was named Most Valuable Offensive Back and Offensive Player of the Year, and T.J. Tester was named Most Valuable Defensive Back and Defensive Player of the Year.

One award the Eagles did not receive was Offensive Lineman of the Year. That went to Lord Botetourt junior Jesse Hanson. The 6’5”, 295-pound Hanson opened big holes for the LB offense, and he was also named to the second team defense on the line.

LB had nine players named to the first team, five on offense and four on defense. Joining Hanson on the first team are senior Kyle Coombe and junior Jake Dewease at receiver, junior Trey Rice at place kicker and Trey’s “little” brother, Hunter Rice, at running back. Hunter made the first team as a freshman.

On defense, senior Noah Overstreet made first team on the line, senior Carlton Emerson was named at linebacker, and Dewease and Evan Eller were both named first team at defensive back.

Botetourt had seven players on the second team, two on offense and five on defense. Shane Wolford, a senior, made second team at center and senior Dylan Crawford is the tight end.

On defense, Crawford made it at end and junior Meade Mayo joined Hanson on the line. Senior Matt Clemons was named to the defensive “All Purpose” position and senior Dylan Maclachlan was named second team at punt return.
