The Botetourt County Historical Museum has a variety of unique gifts for sale this holiday season, including its 2018 calendar, “A Last Look at Greenfield.”
The 2018 calendar features a variety of full color photos highlighting Botetourt County’s historical Greenfield Plantation, which was established in the 1700s. Several historical buildings remain on the site and are featured in the calendar. The old “spring kitchen” and “slave quarters” have been moved from their original sites and are now located in the proposed Botetourt County Historical Heritage Park area. Artifacts that were recovered during the recent archaeological digs on the plantation, home of William Preston, one of Botetourt County’s early founders, are featured in the calendar.
The calendar sells for $13, with the proceeds from sales benefiting the operation of the local museum. The calendar is on sale at the Botetourt County Museum, as well as at Ikenberry’s Orchard and Digital Image Printing in Daleville, and The Frame Shop in Buchanan.
The museum store features a variety of gift possibilities, including a museum Christmas ornament, magnetic handmade wooden quilt squares that can be used as tree ornaments also, and many maps and books that tell the story of Botetourt’s history. The historical society’s recently published book, entitled “Botetourt County & the War Between the States,” signed by author Ed McCoy, editor of The Fincastle Herald, is on sale for $30.
The Botetourt County Historical Museum is open daily, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Sundays from 2-4 p.m. The museum is located at 3 West Main Street in Fincastle, directly behind the Botetourt County Courthouse. For more information, including how to order by mail, contact the museum at 473-8394.
