The high school track season got under way last week as Lord Botetourt hosted a four-team meet. County rival James River, Glenvar and Alleghany joined the Cavaliers on the Daleville oval.
Botetourt’s girls edged James River, 76-75, to take first place. Glenvar had 54 points and Alleghany was fourth with 19.
First place winners for LB in the girls meet included Sofia Hernandez in the 1600 and 3200, Lauren Duff in the 400, Claire Seibel in the 800 and the 4×800 and 4×400 relays.
First place winners for River were Katelyn Wiley in the triple jump and 300 hurdles, Tara Krantz in the shot put and discus, Erin Walker in the 100 and 200 dashes and Niki Kirk in the 100 hurdles.
In the boys meet, LB dominated with 107 points, and River was second with 63. Glenvar was third with 48 points and Alleghany had 26.
Max Burke of LB won the long jump, kigh lump and the 110 kurdles. Other Cavalier firsts were won by Nicholas Francis in the discus, Adrian Taylor in the 100 dash, Bryson Cook in the 800, Max Klimczak in the 3200 and the 4×100 relay.
Taking firsts from James River were Michael Hays in the triple jump and 200 dash and the 4×800 relay.
Both teams are scheduled to run in the “Colonel Classic” at William Fleming High School this Saturday.
