JRHS Knight of the Arts was amazing
Editor:
James River High School “Night of the Arts” Thursday, May 3 was truly amazing. The evening showcased student talents from each of the arts.
Choral Director Pam Stump, Band Director Kevin English, Drama Director Sharon Keith, Art Department Gina Stanley and Currents Magazine 2018 Advisor Melissa Weeks allowed the students to shine. And shine they did.
- From a selection of coral music with choreographed dance moves from “High School Musical,” to a Chamber ensemble, to an art exhibit.
- From a trombone and tuba duet, to a Quattro Pour saxophone, to showcasing various other instruments as well as the concert and jazz bands.
- From a performance of a portion of an upcoming play, to the presentation of the new Currents Magazine 2018, to the arts awards.
All sections of the program were performed with resounding talent and enthusiasm.
There was a delightful surprise table pounding percussion rendition of an impatient hungry group of people in a restaurant with a boppin’ hoppin’ waiter. This was one of the outstanding parts of the evening.
This evening was so refreshing after all the negative feeling out there about our youth. It is a shame that more people from the community do not take advantage of the awesome talents of our Botetourt students. Bravo to JRHS for the “Night of the Arts.”

Ashley Stingrays Swim Team excited over new partnership
Editor:
The board of directors of the Ashley Plantation Stingrays Swim Team is excited to begin a fabulous partnership with Ashley Plantation’s new owners, Runk & Pratt. The managing corporation has experience with numerous country clubs and venues, and the Stingrays cannot wait to see where their new guidance takes the team and the club members.
Among the exterior and grounds improvements planned for the pool and surrounding areas, Runk & Pratt will be offering multiple services that will only enhance the community and the members of Ashley Plantation. Their plans include fixed diving boards, and fabulous grill on-site for family refreshments, and social opportunities for members. They have also agreed to offer a Swim Team Only membership for those who want to have the health and social benefits of a summer swim team, but for personal reasons, cannot or choose not to join the pool.
We want to thank Runk & Pratt for their commitment to Ashley Plantation. We know that, under their ownership, we will continue to grow and flourish as the Botetourt hallmark that it should be.
Thank you, Runk & Pratt!
