The James River baseball team will try to get back on the winning track this week with three games. The Knights were scheduled to host Alleghany on Tuesday, followed by a home game with Floyd County tonight and a trip to Radford on Friday.
The Knights fell to 3-1l as they suffered through a 0-3 skid last week, beginning with a 7-0 loss at Glenvar. Jake Braun went five innings on the mound and took the loss.
On Thursday of last week the Knights hosted Carroll County and dropped an 11-4 decision. Coulter Hodges started on the mound and went four innings with Gabe Sebastino pitching the last three. Dyllan McCallister was three-for-four and scored a run. Dalton Harper and Ethan Loving had two hits each and Loving drove in a pair.
On Friday at Giles the week ended with an 8-6 loss to the Spartans. McAllister pitched five and two-thirds innings of relief, fanning eight, after relieving Kevin Theimer in the first inning.
River trailed 7-1 but rallied to make a game of it, scoring two in the fourth and three in the seventh. In the seventh Chase Oberg got things started with a lead off single. Hodges singled and Sebastino was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After two outs Loving was hit by a pitch to score one run and Andrew Bridges followed with a two-run single, but Giles was able to work out of the inning.
“Even though we are struggling to find consistency the team is still competing,” said coach Harry Falls.
