The Lord Botetourt softball team remained tied atop the Blue Ridge District standings after sweeping a doubleheader from William Fleming in Daleville Monday. Botetourt pitchers tossed shutouts in both games as LB won 17-0 and 5-0.
Meredith Wells threw a one hitter in the first game while Hannah Mundy and Emma Tyler had three hits each. Kloe Bacon belted her sixth home run of the season.
In the nightcap Lauren Hoffman tossed a three hitter and helped her own cause with two hits and a run batted in. Maegan Barnes had two hits for the Cavs.
The sweep gives LB a 13-4 overall record and a 6-1 record in the Blue Ridge District, tied for first place with William Byrd. The two rivals split a home-and-home series, with each winning on their home turf.
Last Friday LB edged Staunton River at home as Wells picked up a win on the mound, scattering five hits and walking none. Mundy tripled in two runs in the first inning and drove in another in a two run third as LB jumped to a 4-0 lead and held on for the win.
The Cavaliers are scheduled to host Hidden Valley today and Northside is here Friday for a Blue Ridge District game.
