The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office has reached out to the community for help with a May 7 home burglary near Buchanan.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that on Monday, May 7 at approximately 2:30 p.m. the victim arrived at his home in the 600 block of Beaver Dam Road to hear his dog barking franticly. He opened the front door and yelled at his dog and as he did, a male exited from behind his home.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the male told the homeowner he was with Augusta Landscaping and he was trying to find the Earhart residence and it was supposed to be a home on a hill across from a dairy farm. He told the victim the landscaping company was based out of a warehouse in Lexington located behind Bank of Botetourt and Taco Bell.
Once the suspect left, the victim found the home had been burglarized. The victim also later found the dog was injured during the burglary. The victim would later discover the suspect stole jewelry.
The victim described the suspect’s car as a bronze early 1990s Nissan Pathfinder with Virginia license plates. The car appeared clean with no aftermarket additions.
The man was described as a white male in his 40s, 5’10” to 5’11” with a muscular frame, clean cut, tan complexion, the start of a full beard and local speech. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, colored T-shirt, blue jeans, wearing a tape measure and carrying a smart phone.
