The Lord Botetourt cross country team sent five runners to the Footlocker South Cross Country Championships in Charlotte, N.C. last weekend. The event is one of the top post-season meets on the East Coast.
“The conditions were rough with all the rain the night before and day of the race,” said LB coach Robert Sullivan. “The temperatures were in the low to mid 30s. The course was in decent shape on the gravel road but the other areas, like the starting line, were very wet conditions.”
Despite the poor conditions, LB’s Sydney Vokus ran a good time to finish 20th overall in the Freshman Race. She was awarded a medal and certificate for earning “All South Region” honors, which went to the top 36 runners in each race.
Running in the sophomore girls race from Lord Botetourt were Sofia Hernandez, Brielle Jackson and Lauren Duff. Evan Gates competed in the boys freshman race.
