Lady Knights look to improve with three returning starters— 2 juniors, and a sophomore; team still young

E.D. Schechterly begins his second season at the helm of the James River girls basketball team with high hopes this week. The girls were scheduled to host Covington Tuesday to open the season, and they’re at Rockbridge County Friday.

Schechterly took over a team that had won just one game the season prior and doubled that win total. He’s looking for more improvement this year with three returning starters, juniors Lakota Lucado and Madison Brogan and sophomore Kahliyah Davis.

“I know that we are going to have to work harder in every game and practice,” said Schechterly. “We have keep giving 100 percent from start to finish.”

Others on the team include seniors Meghan Hix and Colleen Peery, junior Vikcy Trabulsie, sophomores Mckenzie Baker, Myla Lester and Brook Vanderveere and freshman Olivia Griffin.

“We’re going to be young,” said Schechterly. “We only have 10 players on the varsity and eight on the jayvee.”
