The Lord Botetourt basketball teams are hoping to be back in action tonight, Wednesday, following the weekend snowstorm. The boys are scheduled to play at Pulaski County and the girls are home to Franklin County.
LB’s girls were snowed out of a Monday game at Salem. The Cavaliers haven’t played since hosting Brookville on November 30.
“We had a good week of practice,” said LB coach Chuck Pound. “I’m hoping we can get the Franklin County game in.”
The boys have been off for the past week, as their scheduled game with James River last Friday was postponed until January 19 due to the extended LB football season. The Cavaliers did play one game last week, as they opened the season at Glenvar on December 5 and dropped a 55-40 decision.
“We didn’t get enough shots in the paint against their zone,” said LB coach Chad Conner. “We did not move the ball around well enough and took quick shots.”
LB trailed 29-18 at the half and Glenvar won every quarter, dominating the paint. Sophomore center Jeb Secrist had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Highlanders. Glenver had 17 offensive rebounds.
“Their size really hurt us inside,” said Conner. “We allowed them too many second, and sometimes third, chance opportunities to score.”
Jamison Foley led the Cavaliers with 11 points and six rebounds and Tanner Selkirk had nine points.
