Steven Haynes McCord was born on July 9, 1956 in Tulsa, Okla. and went to spend Eternity with Jesus on March 17, 2019 in Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oneida H. McCord and Robert A. McCord Jr., and brother-in-law, Hank Crenshaw.

He is survived by two sisters and their families: Shari Crenshaw and Sheila States (Rob); nieces and nephews, Ashley Crenshaw Tanner (Sean), Josiah Tanner, Isaiah Tanner (Danielle), and Elijah Tanner (Abbie), Kyle Crenshaw (Christina), Lillian and Jackson Crenshaw, Zachary States, Noah States (Whitney), Keaton States, Bekah Bisnett (Joe), Reagan Bisnett; beloved aunts: Helen McCarty (Frazier, deceased) and Jean Walvoord (Clyde, deceased); and many cousins that he remembered with great fondness.

We have been blessed to have Steve with us. He always treasured time with and loved his family. He brought much laughter, and some frustration, into our lives and gave us respect for him, through his determination and perseverance. He was a sweet soul who loved Jesus and was a prayer warrior for all of his life. We will miss him deeply until we meet once again. At the time of his death, Steve lived at the group home, A Shining Light Inc. and was surrounded by loving caregivers and family.  We are so grateful to them for his excellent care and their friendship.

His service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at 1 p.m. at Mill Creek Baptist Church, 11475 Lee Highway, Fincastle. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to A Shining Light Inc, 670 Roanoke Road, Daleville, 24083 or Mill Creek Building Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.botetourtfuneralhome.com, 254-3000.
