4-H Talent Show held at Lord Botetourt

The Botetourt 4-H Talent Show, which was held at Lord Botetourt High School last Friday, featured performers between the ages of 9 and 19.

In total, 25 performers shared their abilities with the audience. All of the participants were awarded a ribbon for their involvement.

Overall division winners were Anna Radtke and Brent Saunders, Junior Division; Audrey Joyce, Intermediate Division; and Delaiah Pittman, Senior Division.

The Junior and Intermediate Division overall winners win a scholarship to Botetourt County 4-H Camp, while the Senior Division overall winner wins a full paid scholarship to Virginia State 4-H Congress where she will compete in the State 4-H Share the Fun Talent competition.

Categories included: Vocal, Dance, Drama, Instrumental, Variety, and Combination.

The Combination category allows competitors the ability to dance and sing, play an instrument and sing, play and instrument and dance, or perform a monologue and play an instrument.

The Variety category allows competitors the ability to do a magic act, puppetry, ventriloquism, juggling, tumbling/gymnastics, stand up comedy, impressionist, clowning, or circus acts.

Participants between the ages of 9 and 11 competed in the Junior Division. The Intermediate Division featured participants between 12 and 13. Those who competed in the Senior Division were between 14 and 19 years of age.

All acts had to fall within the two to four-minute time restraint.

Blue, red, and white ribbons were awarded based on the merit of the act. Purple ribbons were given to category champions.

Overall winners from the junior and intermediate levels received a full scholarship to the 4-H Camp, which runs from June 10-14.

The overall senior winner received a full scholarship to the State 4-H Congress, which will be held at Virginia Tech on June 24-27.

According to the guidelines for the competition, scoring was based on “materials chosen, talent, projected audience reception, creativity, showmanship, and costume.

Students who competed in the talent show had to participate in a mandatory tryout on March 4.
