The James River girls are 3-2-1 at the break after two big wins on the soccer pitch last week. River beat Carroll County, 8-4, and Alleghany, 3-0, both at home.
Against Carroll the Knights dominated much of the game, but the visiting Cavaliers had some moments of strength. Kayla Myers opened the scoring for the Knights in the first minutes of the game, finishing off an assist by Morgan Marshall. Marshall finished for herself shortly after, assisted by Myla Lester. Kaylei Newman scored one for the Cavaliers followed by Megan Hill finishing with a Rachael Hix assist to round out the scoring for the first half. The score at the break was 3-1.
Hill started the second half scoring, finishing a corner kick from Lester in the third minute of play. Adrienne Harris scored for Carroll County, followed by Newman with her second finish, bringing the score to 4-3 at the midpoint of the second half.
The Knights rallied as Sofia Kryder finished from a dramatic assist from Marshall with 15 minutes remaining. Hill scored her third for the night shortly after, assisted by Lester. Meyers scored her second on a PK with 12 minutes remaining.
Harris scored a PK for the Cavaliers with 5 minutes on the clock, followed by Hill scoring her fourth, directly from a corner kick to complete the scoring for the night. The final score was 8-4 for the home James River team as Colleen Peery made 10 saves for the Knights.
A day later the Knights hosted Alleghany in a Three Rivers District match-up. James River dominated the contest, but the visiting Mountaineers played a solid defense and kept the game interesting.
Hill scored in the opening minutes of the first half, assisted by Marshall. Despite several strong attacking drives and significant possession by the home team, this would prove to be the only score in the half.
Hill and Marshall combined again in the first minute of the second half to make the margin 2-0. Hill assisted the final goal, converted by Hix, at the midpoint of the second period.
Peery made seven saves for the Knights and Haley Meadows had two second half saves for River.
The Knights return to the pitch on Monday to host Floyd County in a makeup game at 5:30 p.m.
