Special event at Cave Rock Baptist
A “Celebration of Friendship” will be held at Cave Rock Baptist Church on Friday, 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday, June 1, beginning at 2 p.m. All ages are welcome for fellowship and games. Lunch also will be served on Saturday. The church is at 2233 Stoney Battery Road, Troutville.
‘Old Fashion Day’ at Mt. Joy
Mt. Joy Church will celebrate “Old Fashion Day” on Sunday, June 2, with Sunday School at 10 a.m., worship service at 11 a.m. and a potluck meal afterward. Dress in your “old-fashion” clothes or casual dress. The church is located at 2565 Buffalo Road, Buchanan. Everyone is welcome.
Fincastle pastor going to Arlington
The Rev. Jae-Haeng Choi, pastor of Fincastle United Methodist Church for the past five years, has been assigned to the Arlington Forest United Methodist Church in the Arlington area. A native of Korea, she will be succeeded by the Rev. Kwangmin Shin, who is coming from the Arkansas Conference.
Bonsack Baptist names youth pastor
The congregation of Bonsack Baptist Church has chosen the Rev. Rob Covington of Huntsville, Ala., as its next Minister of Youth. He will join the staff on June 1. According to the Rev. Dr. Chris Cadenhead, senior pastor, Covington is from the Chicago area but obtained his higher education at Baylor University and Truett Theological Seminary. For the past two years he has been in a pastoral residency program at the First Baptist Church in Huntsville. He is a grandson of missionaries who served with the International Mission Board.
Summer worship schedule at Wheatland Lutheran
Beginning on Sunday, June 2, the worship service at Wheatland Lutheran Church will begin at 10:30 a.m., and continue at that time through September 1. The service will return to 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8. There will be no Sunday School during the months of June, July, August, and the first Sunday in September. Troutville Brethren spring revival June 2-5
Troutville Church of the Brethren invites the public to spring revival services June 2-5. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on June 2, and at 7 p.m. June 3-5. Speakers will be Ed and Emma Jean Woodard. A potluck, meal will follow the morning service on June 2.
Family Night Dinner at Buchanan Presbyterian
Buchanan Presbyterian Church will hold its monthly Family Night Dinner on Wednesday, June 5 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Bring your favorite covered-dish selections along with you to add to the other entrees, salads and desserts.
This evening is “Bring A Friend Night” along with an “Ugly Tie Contest-Male & Female.”
The special guest speaker will be Melissa Lucas from the Botetourt Resource Center, telling about the many varied ministries of this local resource.
Cloverdale Brethren fashion show June 8
The public is invited to a fashion show at Cloverdale Church of the Brethren on Saturday, June 8 at 2 p.m. The afternoon will include tea, cookies, fashion tips and a family fashion show. It is sponsored by the Heaven Sent Thrift Shop. The church is located at 4708 Read Mountain Road, Cloverdale.
Celebration by the River June 9-13
The Buchanan Area Ministerial Association (BAMA) will host a community-wide “Celebration by the River” from 6-8 p.m. June 9-13 at the Buchanan Flea Market site. The featured speaker will be Rick Via, founder of “World Reach.” He has led missions in Burma, Uganda and Myanmar. Wes Winebarger will provide the music each evening. The public is encouraged to attend.
BAMA is a not-for-profit association of churches in the Buchanan area. Its mission is to assist those in need in the community through various means and ministries.
Homecoming at First Baptist of Fincastle
The First Baptist Church of Fincastle at 6529 Blue Ridge Turnpike, Fincastle, where the Rev. Montie E. Brown Sr. is pastor, will be celebrating “Homecoming 2019” on Sunday, June 16, starting at 3 p.m. The Rev. David Halsey Sr., pastor of the Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church, Eagle Rock, and Lapsley’s Run Baptist Church, Fincastle, will be the guest preacher. His choir and congregation will accompany him. Dinner will be served directly after the morning service and everyone is welcome.
