Botetourt County’s Recreation & Facilities Department is now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 Capital Improvement Incentive Fund Program.
This award-winning program offers matching funds to community service groups, individuals, and businesses wishing to make recreation-related capital improvements on publicly owned property. This year a total of $35,000 of matching funds will be available through the program.
The grant program will once again consider projects located on any publicly owned property to include recreational parks, schools or property owned by the three incorporated towns. Repairs to existing recreation property, trails and landscaping projects will also be considered for grant funds.
“The county’s Recreation Incentive Fund Grant program has greatly enhanced the quality and variety of park amenities throughout the entire county,” said Brien Halterman, Recreation Manager of the Recreation & Facilities Department. “The grant provides an excellent means by which citizens can positively influence the development of public property within their community.”
Since the program’s inception in 1998, the grant has led to over $1.5 million worth of improvements to county property, with less than half of that amount comprised of budgeted county funds.
The application deadline for this year’s grant is 5 p.m. October 4. For more information, or to receive a copy of the program guidelines and application, contact the Department of Recreation & Facilities at (540) 928-2130 or visit the county website at www.botetourtva.gov/recreation.
