Knights of Columbus fish fry
The Knights of Columbus will hold a fish fry on Friday, August 23, from 5-7 p.m. at the Church of the Transfiguration, 7624 Roanoke Road, Fincastle. Eat in or take out for $10, age 8 through adult. Ages 7 and under eat free. There will be ample portions of lightly breaded flounder (chicken nuggets for children), sweet cornbread, fries, homemade slaw and desserts. A 50/50 drawing will be held.
There are no advance ticket sales. Proceeds will benefit Food for Families, Coats for Kids, and a Helping Hand to the Botetourt Resource Center and Christian Free Clinic. For more information, call 540-904-3126.
Toys 4 Bot-E-Tots fundraiser September 28
Toys 4 Bot-E-Tots sets September 28 for the annual Poker Run and Pork Chop Dinner. Registration for the poker run is $15. Pork chop dinners are $10. There will be door raffles, gun raffle, 50/50 and a bake sale that day. Pork chop tickets are available for purchase now. Gun raffle tickets can also be purchased at this time. Monetary donations can be dropped off at any office of The Bank of Fincastle. To purchase tickets contact Matt Ward, Nellie Ward or Tina Underwood or contact Toys 4 Bot-E-Tots on their Facebook page. All money raised benefits children in Botetourt at Christmas.
Women in the Outdoors event set for September
The Botetourt Longbeards chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) will hold a Women in the Outdoors event on Saturday, September 7 at Blue Ridge Vineyard, 1027 Shiloh Road, Eagle Rock. Cost is $35 and includes membership in the NWTF, a year’s subscription for Turkey Country magazine, lunch and snacks. All participants will receive a $25 Bass Pro gift card.
Activities will include archery, shotgun, rifle, pistol, AR and a nature adventure.
No prior experience in archery or shooting is necessary. No personal firearms are allowed and participants must be at least 16 years old. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Technology program for fourth, fifth graders
Miss Crooked Road Outstanding Teen Skylar Gay will offer a five-week, after school technology program to students in fourth and fifth grades at the Fincastle Library. Her platform is e-FIT (Educating Females In Technology). She is a student at Virginia Western Community College with a focus on science.
Each week students will focus on new technology including Micro: bit, Scratch, MIT App Design, and more. Students will also learn the fundamentals of app design and hacking. This program will be offered on Thursdays from 4-5 p.m., September 12 through October 10 in the Fincastle Library meeting room.
