The Lord Botetourt and James River cross country teams will run in the annual “Knights Crossing” race at Green Hill Park Saturday morning.

The race attracts some of the top teams in the state and beyond and will include several different divisions. Some of the top schools in the state will attend as the state cross country meets will be held at Green Hill Park in November and this will be an excellent opportunity for teams to preview the course. There will also be a jayvee race, a middle school race and several other races.

Lord Botetourt ran in a scrimmage race against Alleghany last week but coach Robert Sullivan did not run some of his top runners. The Cavaliers are at the Radford Relays today.

James River ran in the Giles Invitational in Pearisburg last week, with mostly Class 1 and 2 teams competing in a 22-team field. James River was eighth in the boys’ race with Parry McCluer, Auburn and Glenvar taking the top three spots.

Individually, River’s Cole Miller was 13th overall and Isaac Bell was 22nd. Also scoring for River were Camden Powell in 33rd, Samuel Worsley in 47th and Nathan Etzler in 63rd place.

Abbagail Link was 12th in the girls’ meet. River did not have a full girls’ team as Three Rivers District teams swept the top three spots with Radford first, followed by Glenvar and Floyd County.
