The James River High golf season came to a close Monday when the Knights participated in the Region 2C tournament at the “Old Course” at The Homestead.
Only the top two teams among 13 schools competing advanced to the state tournament, and two Three Rivers District rivals made it. Giles finished first in the region with a team score of 334 while Radford was second at 336.
Another Three Rivers golfer, Tyler Williams of Floyd, was the medalist Monday. He shot a 76 to win by three strokes over four other golfers who carded 79.
James River finished the round with a team score of 405. Freshman Ryan Steger had River’s best score with an 89, followed by Silas Miller at 92. Also scoring for River were Lacey Kessler at 105 and Owen Marshall at 119. Noah Aylor had 120 and Michael Jorgenson shot 121.
“The season was a successful one and I’m very excited about the future of James River golf,” said Knights coach Donna Cox.
Lord Botetourt was getting ready to play in the Region 3D tournament as the paper went to press this week. That was scheduled for the Country Club of Bristol on Tuesday. Look for results in next week’s Fincastle Herald sports pages.
