Last Thursday at the Botetourt County School Board meeting, Mike Moser, the instructional technology resource teacher for Botetourt County Public Schools, received the Kiwanis Educator of the Year Award.
Chairman Michael Beahm shared a few words about the late Jim Bushong, who served as a Botetourt County educator and as an annual liaison for the Kiwanis Club award for many years. While presenting the award to Moser, Lynne Bolton noted that the teacher’s bell trophy is now known as the Jim Bushong Memorial Educator of the Year Award.
Tammy Riggs, principal of Colonial Elementary School, shared her admiration for Moser stating that Moser is “truly one of the kindest, most genuine individuals of true character.”
She praised Moser’s work ethic and the time he puts in to not only educate the students of Lord Botetourt but the staff as well. “When [Moser] walks into our classrooms,” she continued, “the students automatically get excited and are engaged because he is there.”
Bolton spoke about how Moser helped her out with new technology while Bolton taught social studies at Lord Botetourt. She then shared a few points made by Moser’s nominator.
“Mike has enthusiasm for teaching,” Bolton shared. “He is currently working on his Master’s degree. If he doesn’t know how to do something that you’re interested in learning— whether it to use an instructional tool or whatever— he will study up and share that knowledge with you as soon as possible. He is extremely creative with his technology skills. His ability to create presentations, websites, slideshows, etc. impacts our whole school system.”
