The 2020 Roanoke Valley Aquatic Association season has been officially cancelled.
The RVAA annually conducts six Monday night meets, followed by a City-County meet near the end of the July. Botetourt County has three teams in the RVAA, Read Mountain, Ashley Plantation and Limestone Park. There were 14 swim teams scheduled to compete this year before precautions to contain the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible to hold the meets.
“The Read Mountain Swim Team board is looking at all of our options,” said Read Mountain coach Kit Williams, who is on the board of the RVAA. “We would love to be able to provide some type of practice or clinics for our swim team members The health and safety of our swimmers, however, is our priority. We understand the RVAA’s decision to cancel due to the financial implications and restrictions. As a board member this was a heartbreaking decision but one we agreed on unanimously.”
This would have been the 56th season of the RVAA. As of now the local swimming pools are hoping to be open for members at some point this summer.
