Volunteers Jackson Tyree and Aaron Petty helped plant trees on the Buchanan Town Park as part of the community’s Arbor Day activities. The two students from Central Academy Middle School helped to plant dogwoods, thornless honey locusts, hemlock and shrubs on the Town Park as part of Buchanan’s Arbor Day activities. Due to the COVID – 19 restrictions, the town was not able to hold its annual celebration; however, due to the generosity of residents who made donations and a grant from the Virginia Department of Forestry through the Trees for Clean Water Grant, the town has been able to plant 14 trees and 26 shrubs on the Buchanan Town Park and Swinging Bridge Park sites. Community Development Planner Harry Gleason commented, “Jackson and Aaron did a great job helping to install the plant materials. The town is lucky to have this new generation of hardworking volunteers.”
