The Roanoke College spring sports season was wiped out by the coronavirus pandemic, but as of now the fall season is still scheduled to be played. The college recently announced the soccer schedules for the Maroon men’s and women’s teams.
The men’s soccer schedule features a home match during freshman orientation as well as hosting the Roanoke Invitational during the opening week of play. Kerr Stadium will welcome new students when the men open the 2020 season on September 1st as Greensboro comes to town to kick off the new campaign. The Maroons will host the Roanoke Invitational over the weekend of September 5 and 6 with matchups against Methodist and Franklin & Marshall.
After four consecutive road dates, RC will return home to face Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition for the first time. Although not counting in the conference standings, Roanoke will host Eastern Mennonite on the 22nd in advance of their official ODAC opener with Bridgewater on the 26th. The final day of the month will be the date for a matchup with a Washington and Lee team that knocked the Maroons out of the ODAC tournament before winning the 2019 title.
The 2020 RC women’s schedule features 10 home matches, starting with a visit from Greensboro College on September 1st. The match with the Pride concludes the orientation period for the new academic year.
The next two weekends will see a pair of games in two different Classics. September 5 and 6 will see RC travel to Lynchburg to compete against Johns Hopkins and Rutgers-Camden in the 2020 Shellenberger Classic. One week later, the Maroons will play host to the 2020 Roanoke Invitational Soccer Showcase in Kerr Stadium. Lynchburg, McDaniel, and Grove City College will compete in the two-day event.
After a trio of non-conference matchups, Roanoke will kick off the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) portion of their regular season schedule with a visit from Shenandoah on September 26th.
The ODAC tournaments will get started the first week of November.
