Nicholas Betts, a law clerk in Roanoke and resident of Lexington, was named the Democratic candidate for the race for the Sixth District of Virginia last month.

“I’m honored to receive the Democratic nomination for Virginia’s Sixth Congressional District. I plan to work hard and fight for the American people to have what they need to pursue the American dream,” Betts said.

He said that he’s running because he believes that residents of the Sixth Congressional District, along with all Americans, deserve representatives that will bring their concerns to Washington and stand up for justice.

Betts earned his J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law, his M.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University in History, and his B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) from Virginia Commonwealth University in History with a Minor in Political Science. Prior to working as a law clerk, Betts worked as a contract manager for a small family business, as a substitute teacher, as a graduate teaching assistant while earning his master’s degree, and in landscaping and construction while he was earning his bachelor’s degree.

“If elected to represent the constituents of the Sixth District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, I will go to Washington to work, not to play politics,” Betts said.

Betts said he is focused on making sure Americans have access to affordable health care, affordable higher education, that the environment is protected, and that residents of the Sixth District as well as all Americans have access to the Internet. “I look forward to meeting people throughout the Sixth District and listening to your concerns. If we work together, we can find solutions to make health care and higher education more affordable, to develop clean energy sources that will help protect the environment and generate economic growth, and increase Internet access here in the Sixth District and throughout the United States of America.”

Republican Rep. Ben Cline currently represents the Sixth District. He is seeking re-election.
