These two ladder-back chairs (ca.1880) were donated to the Botetourt County Historical Museum in 2006 by Dan A. Chrisman. Thomas Landers made them at his Amsterdam chair manufacturing facility. The seats are caned in a herringbone pattern. Thomas’s son, Robert, was an apprentice chair maker, along with Robert’s older brother and four other brothers. Rena Worthen found the family and their occupations in the 1880 Botetourt Census. Did Walter Keeling take over this business?
