After a damaging fire earlier this spring, the Pomegranate restaurant in Troutville is back open for business in the form of a food truck known as “The Seed of Pomegranate.” The truck, parked outside of the restaurant’s main location, will serve locals looking for either a pick-up eating option or to enjoy the available exterior dining space.
The menu offers some old favorites to returning diners, including daily house-made deserts and sauces, as well as some more casual options. “Some things are a little different,” said owner Diana Dixon. “The shrimp burger is one… and we do a real rib-eye burger, people were surprised how big it was.” For those looking to enjoy a meal on site, the restaurant’s interior is still undergoing renovation, but the outdoor deck can safely accommodate up to 18 socially-distanced patrons, with eight more seats available at outdoor picnic tables.
The food truck enjoyed a steady stream of business during its grand re-opening on September 5, though the restaurant only publicly announced the re-opening a few days before. “A lot of my regulars came on Friday and Saturday,” Dixon recalled, with the company’s announcement on Facebook receiving over 1,600 views from fans.
“We are serving our casual menu for outside and takeout dining,” said Dixon via email. “We should be able to have limited seating inside by the end of September. [The] kitchen is fully renovated after the fire of a new icemaker motor which completely sooted the building. All ceilings, insulation and electrical fixtures in the whole building have been replaced and 17,000 square feet [have been] repainted.”
Nearly five months after the fire, Dixon and crew are happy to enjoy local support again, but were also happy to state they’d received moral support from regulars over the summer. “We appreciate all the calls interested in knowing when we will re-open!”
The Seed of Pomegranate is open for lunches and dinners, Wednesdays through Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
