Community of Blue Ridge to receive natural gas service as part of new school project

The Colonial Elementary School project in Blue Ridge is bringing more than additional classrooms to the community. As part of its agreement to supply the facility with natural gas for its boilers, Roanoke Gas Company laid over two miles of pipe across US 460 to the previously unserviced area leading up to the new school. Residents along the new pipeline will be able to request service connections.

“Getting natural gas service to Blue Ridge is one of the extra benefits we are receiving as a result of the new school project,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Billy Martin, who also represents Blue Ridge. “This new infrastructure will not only provide an economical, more reliable source of energy but will also reduce energy costs and increase the desirability of living in Blue Ridge.”

The newly available connections are the result of efforts starting earlier this year, during which Roanoke Gas began installing gas facilities along US 460 east toward Laymantown Road, branching off to Welches and then along to Laymantown Road to Murray Drive, then ultimately to the school property at 142 Murray Drive. With the new school scheduled to open by the end of 2020, these facilities will be available in early fall.

Anyone interested in connecting to natural gas service should contact Roanoke Gas Company at www.roanokegas.com or 540-777-4427.

The project involved the laying over two miles of pipe.
