Sherry Lynn Rucker of Buchanan was Born November 21, 1959 in Roanoke. Sherry passed away peacefully at her home on October 14, 2020 after a courageous battle with ALS, (Lou Gehrig disease) with only losing the love of her life James Samuel Rucker III two months and 13 days ago, after being together for 34 years.

Sherry worked for the Red Cross for 29 years and was promoted June 02, 2010 as Supervisor over Collection Operations Support. Sherry worked in many different areas with the Red Cross and remained dedicated until she had to retire in December 2019 due to her illness.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother-in-law, Jean W. McClure, who Sherry thought of as a Mom and loved her dearly; sister, Karen Shank (Kevin) of Florida; brother, Boyd Shank of Salem; brother-in-law, Eric Metz (Penny) of Buchanan; her sons, who Sherry loved so much, Sean Hash (Wendy) of Roanoke, James Samuel Rucker IV of Roanoke, Chris Hash and wife Danielle Hash of Moneta, who was the caregiver of Sherry and husband James Samuel Rucker III, throughout both their illnesses; and stepdaughter, Bridget Owens of Salem. Sherry also leaves her grandchildren, Rylee Hash, Alissa Hash, Christopher Hash, Nakota Agusto, Hannah Minnix, James Samuel Rucker V, Bentley Rucker, Jason Hollandsworth, and Jacob Hollandsworth.

A memorial will be held to celebrate the life of Sherry at a later date. There are no words to describe how much she will be missed by her family and friends. We will all remember that beautiful smile; it’s not good-bye, but I’ll see you later.
