In the early days, Fincastle had several bars. This is a large, heavy pewter tankard with a curved handle. It has ornate engraved sides showing a windmill on one side and a castle with a moat shown here. A bear tops the hinged domed lid. A strong 6’2” man like General Breckinridge could drink two pints of beer in a tankard like this one. It was donated to the Botetourt County Museum by the General James Breckinridge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
