Members of the Lord Botetourt High School FFA packed more than 600 meal bags for families in need for both the Thanksgiving and winter school breaks. This was part of a State Day of Service that was supported through a Living to Serve grant received by the Virginia FFA Association.
Supplies were distributed to high school FFA chapters across the state. Lord Botetourt members worked mornings before school and during classes to pack all of the bags and then delivered them to Orchard Hills Church, which works with the elementary schools throughout the county to distribute the meals to children for weekends and holidays.
While schools are offering meals to students who are in school, as well as virtual learners, during the weekdays, many times on weekends and holidays these students have to go without full meals.
The FFA Motto is “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve.” The goal of the grant is to support state FFA associations and foundations in providing FFA members across the country opportunities to engage in impactful community service as they strive to live up to their motto, said Stuart Byrd, LB FFA advisor.
