The Three Rivers District golfers traveled to the Great Oaks course in Floyd County last week and were able to play nine holes before the match was halted due to rain. Host Floyd had the best team score at 161 while Giles was second at 168.
River came in at 189, led by Ryan Steger’s 45. Four players tied for medalist with 40 each, two from Floyd and two from Giles.
River’s next best score was a 46 by Silas Miller. Three Knights shot 49, Dylan Hicks, Joey Schroeder and Jake Braun.
“The conditions were tough but the guys persevered to finish out the nine,” said River coach Donna Cox.
The Knights are off this week but will play two matches next week over spring break. The team will be traveling to Cliff View in Alleghany County on Monday and then to Hanging Rock in Salem on Thursday.
“Our regional tournament is quickly approaching on April 12 and it will be held at The River Course in Radford,” said Cox. “I am expecting a strong showing from the top four golfers on the team.”
