The Eagle Rock Ruritan Club met on April 20 for their second in-person gathering at the Eagle Rock Community Center, following Virginia’s continuing guidelines for small group meetings. Anyone who was not able to gather in person had the option of meeting by phone.
Club members had the opportunity to enjoy a “box supper” prepared by Maw and Paw’s Diner. Members plan to continue discussions about re-opening the center for public use and hope to make an announcement at the June 15 meeting. A litter pickup, planned for Earth Day, April 22, was rescheduled for a later date.
It was announced that scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be presented by the club to three Eagle Rock area graduates at James River High School.
Members discussed needed improvements at the Community Center and heard an announcement concerning improvements planned for Emmanuel Chapel. Club members were encouraged to participate in both of these projects.
Eagle Rock Ruritans are involved in activities of other groups in and around Eagle Rock, such as the Eagle Rock Improvement Association and Eagle Rock Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
Barbara Holaday announced that there will be a multi-event celebration of Botetourt County’s 250th Anniversary at the Blue Ridge Vineyard on October 10, 2021. Mark your calendars and watch for more details.
As always, the club meeting opened with the singing of “My County, ’Tis of Thee” and with prayer, and closed with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.
