Leah Meacham (9) of the Cavaliers controls the ball against Byrd.

The Lord Botetourt girls went 3-0 in soccer games last week but the boys weren’t as successful, dropping both of their games.

The girls opened with a 7-0 shutout of Franklin County at home on Tuesday, May 18, then followed with a 2-1 win over William Byrd a night later. Briana Myers and Ally Spangler scored goals for the Cavaliers.

The girls were back on the road Friday at Northside, where they won 5-0. Myers had two goals and Spangler, Emma Rice and Alexis Bonhotel had one each as the Cavaliers remained unbeaten at 6-0.

The boys opened their week with a 3-0 loss at Franklin County.

“Hats off to Franklin, they are well coached and the strongest Franklin team I have seen since picking them up on the schedule,” said LB coach Tim Wright. “I think the picture on the scoreboard does not quite paint how we played. We brought back the small wins and opportunities to develop from the loss.”

The Cavs ended the week with a tough 2-1 loss to Northside in Daleville, bringing their overall record to 2-2-1.

“Unfortunately, we gave up an easy goal early on in the game and from there we attempted to play catch-up,” said Wright. “We have three penalty kick calls against us out of the five games we have had, one of which ultimately secured the win for Northside.”

The Cavaliers are back home on Friday to host William Byrd. Both the girls and boys played William Fleming on Tuesday, but results were too late for publication.
