Julia Helen Rader, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, May 28, 2021.

She was born on November 10, 1932 at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Roanoke to Frank Raymond Rader and Katherine Freeman Rader. At the age of 3 months, she was brought to share her grandparents’ home in Botetourt County and to be cared for by her aunt, Florence Rader Gillenwater, who also was the caregiver for her grandparents. Julia Helen moved to Roanoke in 1977 and then to Vinton in 2010.

She was predeceased by her parents; grandparents, Frank Emmett Rader and Julia Simmons Rader; her aunts and uncles, Florence and Robert G. Gillenwater, Kenneth and Louise Rader, and Della and George Hartbarger. She was a lifelong member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed being involved in the activities of the Busy Bees of Riverdale Baptist Church.

She is survived by her church friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1, at 12 noon in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Quirin officiating. A period of visitation began one hour prior to the service. Interment was in Mill Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Mill Creek Baptist Church, 11475 Lee Highway, Fincastle, 24090 for its missions programs. Online condolences may be made at www.botetourtfuneralhome.com.
