Local women named to VaSID All-State volleyball teams

Lord Botetourt graduate Miette Veldman and James River grad Lynsey Bailey have been named to the state Virginia Sports Information Directors Volleyball All-State teams. Veldman was named to the University Division team while Bailey was selected to the college division team.

Veldman, who competed as a freshman for James Madison University, is coming off a season where she was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year.  After her remarkable freshman campaign, Veldman added VaSID Rookie of the Year honors to her resume.

Miette finished the regular season leading freshmen in kills per set with 4.26 in 35 sets hitting on a .270 clip, while sitting second in the conference and 33rd in the nation. She sits fourth in the CAA for points per set racking up 158.5 points to average 4.53. Defensively, the freshman recorded 85 digs averaging 2.43 a set and seven total blocks.

Bailey, a junior outside hitter at Roanoke College, made the All-ODAC first team for the third consecutive season in addition to being named the 2018 ODAC Volleyball Rookie of the Year. This season, Bailey eclipsed the 1,000 kill mark for her career. For the season she was second in the league with 168 kills and her 4.10 kills per set topped the ODAC statistical rankings. After her freshman season, 2018, the junior was named the VaSID Rookie of the Year.
