Russell Lee Rosenberger, 79, of Daleville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.

When asked to describe Russ, his family and friends quickly point out his notorious sense of humor. He was a man who liked to laugh and make others laugh, never taking himself too seriously. Even while in the hospital he could be found cracking jokes to the staff with a grin on his face. Russ truly enjoyed life and had many interests that enriched his mind, body, and spirit.

He liked tinkering on cars, shooting guns at the Roanoke Rifle & Revolver Club, and practicing wooden and metal modeling. Much to the delight of friends and family, Russ also happily lent his handyman skills to build and fix things around the house and for others. If someone needed a unique tool or piece of equipment, Russ had it in his workshop. He enjoyed reading and watching shows about history, keeping up on politics, and rooting on UVA and Davidson in sporting events, especially basketball. Russ was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Davidson College, and was someone who deeply valued education.

Russ liked to keep the mood light and have a smile on his face, but there were many things in life that he took very seriously. After college he served his country as an officer in the United States Army. He further sought to serve others while working with the Troutville Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad, and as a Lay Reader at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Russ worked at Rock Tenn (previously Chesapeake Packaging and Miller Container) for over 30 years as a Quality Conformance Manager, exercising a meticulous attention to detail.

Remaining to treasure the wonderful memories of Russ are his adoring wife of 44 years, Eula Ligon Rosenberger; children, Kelly Rosenberger Patrick (Adam), Stephen Daves (Christina), and Arthur Daves (Heather); and grandchildren, Justin and Megan Daves, and Ethan, Alex, and Laura Daves.

A Memorial Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, in Evergreen Burial Park Chapel of Light with the Rev. Bob Copenhaver officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends to make contributions to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at stmarksfincastle.org.

Arrangements entrusted to Oakey’s Funeral Service – Roanoke Chapel. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.oakeys.com.
