Last week, Botetourt Fire & EMS announced on its Facebook page a list of the winners from the department. Each winner will receive an additional nomination for the Governor’s EMS Awards held in November at the annual EMS Symposium.

Botetourt County Fire & EMS won Outstanding EMS Agency this year. This award is given to the agency that exemplifies outstanding professionalism and service to its community; whose high level of patient care is evident by innovative training, community awareness, preventive health programs, public relations efforts and participation in local, regional and statewide EMS systems.

Daniel Murray also received the award for Outstanding Contribution to EMS Emergency Preparedness and Response. This award represents a crew member that demonstrates comprehensive and/or significant accomplishments for programs that provide preparedness, response and recovery from natural, man-made and preplanned events, which cause a significant impact on the agency and the community. These activities should directly relate to and impact the provision of emergency medical care during these events.

Nicole Manspile received Outstanding Contribution to EMS Telecommunication. This award represents a team member whose outstanding dedication and service has demonstrated an exceptional contribution to the improved delivery of emergency medical services in the local, regional or statewide EMS system.

Operational Medical Director Carol Bernier received the Cheryl B. Haas Award for Outstanding EMS Physician. This award is given to an EMS physician who exemplifies outstanding leadership and dedication in the exercise of prehospital care.

“This is tremendous to see so many accolades bestowed on the department and BOCO individuals,” Botetourt Fire & EMS Chief Jason Ferguson stated in a recent message to his team. “With all the work that went into the efforts to serve our community in 2020 over and above the norm in response to COVID, it’s great to see the region found them to rise to a level of achievement. All regional winners will go on to be submitted for consideration at the state level for the Governor’s EMS Awards. A huge ‘thank you’ to each and every one of you. It is your hard work and dedication that has helped make the department stand out.”
