Shown is a tooled leather saddle with a rich history. It was donated to the Botetourt Museum in 2006 by Philip and Barbara Braitwaite Trosper. Buena Vista Saddler & Harness manufacturers Samuel and William (son) Wilburn made the saddle. They patented the saddle tree in 1883. It is mounted on a walnut stand handmade by Philip Braithwaite. The saddle belonged to William (Dave) Price Wood (1881-1929). Dave inherited his love of horses and veterinary skills from his father, Philip Firebaugh Wood. A detailed history is attached to the saddle telling of its use in healing cattle and delivering music to the people of Botetourt County.
