The Lord Botetourt golfers wrapped up the Blue Ridge District regular season title last week with a round of 308 at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club. LB won every one of the five BRD matches, including two nine-hole events and three 18-hole matches.

Cavalier junior Ashton Harper was the medalist at the BG&SC with an even par round of 71. Ashton finished as the individual champion of the Blue Ridge District tour, with Peyton Spangler of Northside finishing second and Samir Davidov of LB taking third.

Davidov did not play in last week’s match, as he was playing in an out-of-town tournament. Also scoring for the Cavs were Jake Koffman at 74, Dylan Salvi at 79 and Xavier Shelton at 84.

Botetourt’s team score of 308 was 11 strokes better than Northside, giving the Cavaliers a 58-stroke edge over the Vikings for the season, 1,188 to 1,246. Franklin County finished third on the season, William Byrd was fourth and Staunton River was fifth. William Fleming did not have a team.

The Blue Ridge District was also scheduled to have a tournament, but it was rained out on Tuesday and will not be made up as teams are using their time to practice for the Region 3D tournament, which will be held next Tuesday, September 28, at the Draper Valley Course in Pulaski County. That’s a big one, as the top two teams and three individuals not on those teams advance to state play. Botetourt figures to be in the mix.

“Abingdon is hands down better than anyone else, but after that it’s close,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “I would say it would be between us and Hidden Valley for the second spot, but Northside can also shoot a good score.”

LB played a nine-hole non-district match with Salem last week at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club and LB won 164 to 169 as both coaches played some golfers who aren’t normally in the top six. Koffman was medalist with a 35 over nine holes and also scoring were Caleb O’Quinn at 44 and both Shelton and Cole Leavens at 45.
