Free lunch Saturday at Solomon’s Mission
Solomon’s Mission on Lowe Street, Buchanan, will have its Second Saturday Free Lunch on October 9 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The lunch will consist of spaghetti, baked ziti, salad, bread and dessert.
The lunch and devotions will be provided by Valley View Baptist Church, Buchanan.
Prophecy conference Sunday at Colonial Baptist
Colonial Baptist Church in Blue Ridge invites everyone to a one-day prophecy conference on Sunday, Oct. 10. There will be sessions at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The topics, in order, are “Global Warming and the Bible,” “The Seventy Weeks of Daniel,” and “Ezekiel 38-39: Developments in the Middle East Today.” There is no charge.
Due to the sensitive nature of issues discussed, this event will not be live-streamed or available on social media.

Springwood Food Pantry open October 16
The Springwood Baptist Food Pantry will be open on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 9-10:30 a.m. – note new hours of operation. The pantry is located at 88 Copps Hill Road, Buchanan. Clients are asked to remain in their cars and food orders will be delivered to them. Additionally, clients are asked to wear masks, practice social distancing, and use proper hand hygiene while visiting the pantry. These measures will help to keep everyone safe as food is picked up. The pantry is a partner with Feeding America Southwest Virginia and distributes USDA food on the third Saturday of each month to clients.
Mill Creek’s annual fish fry October 23
The annual fish fry at Mill Creek Baptist Church will be held on October 23 from 4:30 until 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall, take out or dine in. The menu will consist of two pieces of fish, parsley potatoes, slaw, bread and a dessert this year for $12. All proceeds will benefit the church building fund.
The annual fish fry has always been a popular fundraiser for the church, so please secure tickets early from one of the following: Tommy Moore at (540) 529-5290, Nancy Epperly at (540) 520-6600, or Sue Sweet at (540) 797-2304. In the past, a bake sale was held with homemade desserts along with the fish fry. This year, a dessert will be included with the meal. Covid-19 is still affecting communities so the church will be watching CDC guidelines to make this dinner safe and enjoyable for all. Dining in could be subject to change, and if that becomes affected, it will be communicated to the public through the church’s Facebook page and website.
Bonsack Baptist Craft Expo November 6
Bonsack Baptist Church is holding its annual Craft Expo on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Community Life Center, 4945 Cloverdale Road. It is free to the public.
More than 50 vendors are participating and a variety of items will be sold. An outdoor vendor will sell kettle corn.

Joyful Journey Club traveling to Wohlfhart Dinner Theatre
The next Joyful Journey Travel Club trip is to the Wohlfhart Haus Dinner Theater in Wytheville on December 1 for a matinee Christmas dinner and show.
The cost per person of $82.50 covers the meal, show, bus (from Sunshine Tours), and driver’s tip. The bus leaves from St. Mark’s UMC in Daleville at 10 a.m., picks up people from the Food Lion in West Salem at 10:20 a.m. and will return to St. Mark’s about 6:30 p.m. after stopping at the Salem Food Lion. The final payment is due in full by October 30.
Seating for this trip is limited to 35 people, so do not delay in getting your registration form in.
