Bailey Mines sets one up for the Knights.

The James River volleyball team will have its third home game of the week when the girls host Radford in Springwood on Thursday night.

The Knights are deep into their district schedule as they played back-to-back games against Three Rivers opponents on Monday and Tuesday. The Knights lost to a tough Glenvar team in three sets on Monday and were scheduled to host Carroll County on Tuesday.

On Monday, Glenvar, a team that went unbeaten during the regular season in the spring, improved to 8-2 with a three-set win over River, 25-15, 25-11 and 25-8. Emma Lester had six kills and 14 digs for the Knights, while  Emma Francis had four kills and a block. Rachel Harless had 11 digs and Mary Hoye had 10.

The loss dropped the Knights to 0-2 in the tough Three Rivers District. Last week in Floyd the Buffalo Gals remained undefeated with a three-set win over River, 25-14, 25-20 and 25-9.  Lexi McCullough had seven kills to lead the Knights, while Michaela Hedrick had five and Lester had four. Bailey Mines had 10 assists and Hoye led the team with 15 digs.

“Two tough matches for us,” said River coach Davina Copsey. “We generated lots of defense and a good bit of offense, but we did not convert enough plays to points.”
