The Lord Botetourt girls will be home tonight to host William Byrd in the semifinal round of the Blue Ridge District volleyball tournament. Tip off time is 6 p.m. in Daleville.
The girls are the second seed in the tournament and had a first round bye on Monday night as the tournament opened. Third seeded William Byrd defeated William Fleming in three sets and fourth seeded Staunton River eliminated Staunton River in three as well.
Franklin County is the top seed. Both LB and Franklin finished the regular season with 9-1 district records, splitting head-to-head matches, but the Eagles had the tie-breaker. Since all the matches are at the higher seeds, the Eagles would get the home advantage for the district championship game if both Franklin and LB win tonight. The district championship is a week from tonight, on October 27.
Botetourt won the first meeting between the two in four sets but the Eagles turned it around in Rocky Mount last week, winning in three by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-17. Nora Spickard led the Cavs with nine kills, while Sydney Whorley had seven kills, Skylar Morris had 20 assists and Julianna Stephenson had 10 digs and three aces.
The Cavs bounced back on Thursday to end the regular season with a three-set win over Staunton River in Moneta, 25-12, 25-18 and 25-17. Whorley had a dozen kills, Spickard had eight kills and three aces, Stephenson had four kills and Morris had 25 assists, 11 digs and four aces.
With the win, LB finished the regular season at 14-6 overall.
