This cotton afternoon “day dress” was worn by a member of the Wood family of Eagle Rock. Prints became popular in the 1860s along with dropped shoulders and a shortened bodice. The dress was donated to the Botetourt County Museum by Janice Thompson. The cloth mannequin on which it is displayed was donated by Montpelier, the former home of President James Madison. It was cut and shaped to fit the small waist and bodice of this dress.
