The Lord Botetourt girls saw their volleyball season come to an end with a loss to Bassett in the Region 3D quarterfinals last week. The Bengals beat LB in four sets in Daleville.
Botetourt, the fourth seed, got off to a good start against fifth seeded Bassett by taking the first set, 25-15. However, after that it was all Bengals as Bassett won the next three sets, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-22. LB actually outscored the Bengals, 91-90 overall, but Bassett won the big points when they counted most.
Junior Nora Spickard had 17 kills to lead LB along with 15 digs and a pair of aces. Emma Rice had 11 kills and five blocks, while Julianna Stephenson had 10 kills, 16 digs and an ace. Claire Dozier had six kills, freshman Skylar Morris had 43 assists and four aces and Rylee White had 10 digs and two aces.
With the loss the Cavaliers finished the season at 15-8 overall. Lord Botetourt was co-champion in the Blue Ridge District.
“The season ended earlier than we would have liked but the coaches and I are really proud of this team,” said coach Julie Conner. “They have improved in every aspect of the game this year, and were so much fun to be around.”
