Arthur Leon Johns passed away peacefully at his home in Charlotte, N.C., on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at the age of 81. Funeral services with military honors will be held graveside at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Forest Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Eagle Rock.
Leon was born on April 12, 1940, to Teddy D and Ethel B. Johns and attended Eagle Rock and James River High Schools. Leon was one of 11 siblings raised in a loving home on a farm in Eagle Rock. Leon attended Forest Grove Baptist Church through his childhood and was a citizen of the Monacan Indian Nation.
Leon served honorably in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962 with a final honorable discharge from the Army Reserve component in 1965. During his service to the United States, Leon served overseas in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. After his military service, Leon moved to Charlotte, N.C., and became a truck driver and self-employed businessman, raising a family in a loving home.
Leon was a loving and caring gentleman, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his former wife, Rosalyn; his children, Karen (Switzer), Rodney, Curt (Gormican), Travis, Brandon, and Liam; his siblings, Goldie (Hambrick), Queenie (Clark), and Bobby; his grandchildren, Katie and Jack (Gormican) and Cypress and Sequoia (Johns). All will miss him dearly but grateful to know he is now with the Lord.
