River swimmers compete at Gator Center

The James River swim team competed in a meet at the Gator Center in Roanoke with two strong Roanoke County schools last week and held their own. Defending Class 2 Glenvar competed along with host William Byrd.

For the boys, the team of Nathan Etzler, Walker Wilson, Alex Ampbell and Colin Cook won the 200 Medley Relay and also took third in the 200 Free Relay. Individually, Etzler placed third in the 100 Free and second in the 100 Back. Wilson was third in the 200 Free and 100 Fly, Campbell was fourth in the 50 Free and fifth in the 100 Breast and Cook took a third I the 50 Free and sixth in the 100 Breast.

In the girls competition, MacKenzie Alford was third in the 200 Back and fourth in the 200 Free. Drew Whitson was second in the 100 Breast and fourth in the 100 Free and Addison Jones took fifth in the 50 Free and sixth in the 100 Free.

River was scheduled to compete at the Salem YMCA on Tuesday but results were too late for publication. Opponents included George Wythe, Fort Chiswell, Staunton River and host Glenvar.

Lord Botetourt did not have a meet last week. The Cavaliers are scheduled to swim at Alleghany tonight.
