There are eight hand-painted murals on the walls upstairs in the Botetourt County History Museum. Shown is the home of Colonel James Breckinridge, Grove Hill. All of the paintings are of Botetourt County landmarks and were painted in 1970 by M. Cushing Wood, Mrs. William Mahone IV and Mrs. David B. Ayers. With the construction of a new Botetourt Courthouse in 2022, the present History Museum brick building will be moved to the lower parking lot behind the Old Jail. It includes the 18th century law office of Col. Breckinridge. Botetourt County has generously shared the building with the BCHS Museum since its opening in 1966 but without water. The future BCHS Museum will be located at 26 East Main Street, Fincastle, and have a bathroom.
