[SUBMITTED PHOTO]This commemorative plate says Mount Union Presbyterian Church, Troutville, Virginia. The history of this church began long ago with a small brick structure known as the Mountain Union Meeting House. It served as a place of worship for the different denominations of the Haymaker District. In 1832, a Presbyterian congregation of 24 members was formally organized by the Fincastle Presbyterian Church. In 1888, the brick church was replaced with a white Greek Revival-style building. John M. Fulton was the first minister. In 1985, the building was moved from the corner of Rt. 630 and Rt. 779 in Botetourt County to the Explore Park in Roanoke County. Today, it can be rented for events and features beautiful dark wood pews, a raised platform altar with arch and lovely wood flooring. On the plate’s back is stamped “Rhythm of Homer Laughlin M55N4.” It was made by Worldwide Art Studios in Covington, Tenn. The plate is in the Botetourt County Museum with other historic pictures of this church.
